OLIVIA'S STORY

Olivia.jpg

Occasionally Mother Nature throws a curve. In 40 years of breeding I have neve had a dog who was born blind. Nizhoni's Lovin' Olivia was born August 23,2004. She is very special. She was from a litter of 4 girl babies. When the puppies were 3 days old I was getting ready to dock their little tails when the phone rang. It was a lovely gal in SF and she was looking for a companion for her Min Pin with one extra request. She didn't want the tail docked. I agreed to not dock one of their tails. It was strange raising a litter of pups with one with this long tail. She seemed to know she was different and let the rest of the litter know that she ruled!  What an outgoing personality she had. That tail just never stopped wagging. She was such a happy girl. She got her Wellness Vet exam & off she went to  SF at 8 weeks. I just knew they would just love her. And they did. On day 2 she called & asked of I’d noticed “Olivia”( they’d named her) bumping into things. I replied “she’s a busy puppy…they bump into things” To make a long story short they had her checked by a specialist who determined that Olivia was totally blind. They could find no medical reason.

Because they lived in a 2 story condo they made the heart-wrenching decision to return her to me. I was going to determine her special needs and find a good home for her. SURE!! When we arrived at the airport & she heard my voice her little crate just rocked with excitement. Needless to say she never went anywhere else.

She’s 7 now. She is the most happy (that tail NEVER stops wagging) & loving dog in the world.  She knows this house and yard better than I do! I used to take her to the dog shows (we’re vendors) & she became a celebrity of sorts. The children were fascinated with her ability to follow their voices and walk on a leash without fear. To this day there are people at the shows who remember me as "Olivia's Mom".  . I have learned so much from her. We are lovin her every day!
